Maria Sobral Mendonça

Maria Sobral Mendonça (Lisbon, 1963) is a Portuguese visual artist based in Lisbon.

Her practice is centred on painting, exploring color as a field of perception, time and material presence. Working from her Lisbon studio, she develops original works on paper through a process guided by gesture, light and the physical qualities of paint.

Rather than representing places or narratives, her paintings construct spaces of experience where color becomes the primary language. Each work evolves through successive layers, balancing intuition with material investigation and allowing the surface to unfold over time.

Every painting is a unique original, created as part of a sustained exploration of color, matter and perception. Her work reflects an ongoing commitment to painting as a space where material, light and memory converge.

In color, we cross time.
